Village Earns Improved Flood Insurance Rating
Bartlett was recognized by the Department of Homeland Security, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) during the 3/19 Village Board meeting for increasing its National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) community rating to a Class 6. What this means is that Bartlett homes in special flood hazard areas with NFIP policies issued or renewed on or after October 1, 2018, now qualify for a 20 percent discount in the premium cost of flood insurance.
In a congratulatory letter, William Lesser, CRS coordinator for the Federal Insurance and Mitigation Administration noted the Village's floodplain management activities and further stated, "I commend you on your community actions and your determination to lead your community to be more disaster resistant. This commitment enhances public safety, property protection, and protects the natural functions of floodplains, and reduces flood insurance premiums."
