Important Ruse Burglary Information

Post Date:12/03/2018
Bartlett Police Department is notifying residents of an increase in ruse burglaries involving individuals who pose as landscaping contractors or utility workers, especially in the Heron's Landing and Westridge subdivisions. This type of burglary usually occurs when a homeowner is distracted by an individual who either asks for permission to check on something inside the residence or in the backyard of a residence while another person enters the residence to steal valuables, such as money or jewelry.

On November 4, a ruse burglary occurred on Blue Heron Way involving several individuals who claimed they needed to check the electrical box inside the residence after finishing some utility work. Three male suspects attempted to distract the residents while an additional male suspect went upstairs and attempted to remove a safe from a bedroom closet. They were last seen leaving the area in a smaller, silver colored sports utility vehicle.

On November 23, an attempted ruse burglary occurred on Burton Drive involving three male suspects who attempted to distract the residents about a fence that the homeowners association was planning on installing around the home. The suspects attempted to separate the residents, but they were unsuccessful.

Please call 9-1-1 to report any suspicious activities in order to deter these types of crimes from occurring in the Village of Bartlett. Do not allow anyone in your residence unless you know them personally or you have a scheduled appointment. Also, never leave your doors unlocked if you choose to speak with a contractor or a utility worker.
