Bicycle Registration
Bikes may be registered for free at any time at the Police Department. A numbered bike sticker is issued, making the recovery of lost or stolen bikes easier.
D.A.R.E.
D.A.R.E. stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education and is taught to fifth grade students at all Bartlett elementary schools. D.A.R.E. is a 10-week program that educates younger children in resisting drug use. This is a nationally recognized program that seeks to combat drug use by preventing it before it becomes a problem.
Project Alert
Project Alert is a nationally recognized program aimed at reducing the interest in "gateway drugs" (marijuana, alcohol, cigarettes, and inhalants) to teenagers. This program is taught to seventh graders at Eastview Middle School by the Bartlett Police School Liaison Officer.
Neighborhood Watch
There are several neighborhood watch groups in Bartlett. New groups are always welcome. This program encourages citizen involvement by educating citizens as to what is occurring in their neighborhoods, as well as encouraging them to call the police when something may be wrong. Interested persons should call the Crime Prevention Officer.
Fleet Watch
Fleet Watch operates on the principle that the best crime prevention resource any community can have is its citizens. Fleet Watch enlists the help of businesses whose jobs take them out into the community. Each employee represents an additional set of eyes and ears for law enforcement. Participating vehicles can be identified by a green and white Fleet Watch bumper sticker.
Simply put, the Fleet Watch program is “Neighborhood Watch on Wheels." Companies in the Fleet Watch program receive training on "how" and "when" to report incidents to police. Armed with nothing more than a cell phone or two-way-radio, couriers and truck drivers can deliver a crushing blow to criminals.
Recognizing that the driving community is an untapped resource for crime prevention, the Bartlett Police can now link information with people. For example, if the police department is searching for a particular vehicle or suspect in a recent crime, that information can be relayed directly to businesses enlisted in Fleet Watch.
In a matter of seconds, businesses receive the special "look-out-alert" and the police department can count on the support of literally hundreds of specially trained drivers. Additionally, Fleet Watch members are encouraged to report any activity they feel is suspicious or any other emergency situation.
Any business interested in participating in this program may contact the Crime Prevention Unit, 837-0846.
Directed Patrol Team
Established in 1994, two officers are assigned to this team. These officers respond to specialized requests for extra enforcement in specific areas, conduct traffic studies, participate in the Summer Mobile Force, and hold community talks. Their most visible activity is the bicycle patrol, seen routinely from May through September.
Tours
The Crime Prevention Unit offers tours of the Police Department to all interested groups. Contact the Crime Prevention Officer at 837-0846 to schedule a tour.
