The process of obtaining a permit is as follows. For new residential, commercial, or industrial construction see the forms below.
First we recommend you review the Building Department's Home Improvement Guide (requires Adobe Acrobat Reader)
Second, fill out the building permit application.
Third, visit the Village's Building Department and bring with you your plat of survey (the map of your property you were given at the closing of escrow), building permit application (including the tax index number), an estimated cost of the project, and a signed copy of the contract for the proposed work (if applicable). Pay appropriate permit fee.
Once these items are received and reviewed (usually within 48 hours) a verbal approval of the permit will be given.
The specification sheets available below will help you complete your project in accordance to the Village's Building Code. The absence of a specification sheet for a project does not mean a permit is not required. If you are not sure if a permit is required, please call the Building Department at 630-837-0800.
