“It’s such an honor to be able to recognize a man who has given so much in service to our country and in defense of our freedoms – and he continues to do so in his retirement through his community service,” said Rep. Roskam.

Abraham served from 1961 to 1991, providing valuable geodetic survey support vital to numerous Air Force weapon and guidance systems supporting the development and deployment of missiles and aircraft vital to the defense of the United States and its allies. During his career, Abraham was awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal with oak leaf, the Joint Service Commendation Medal with oak leaf and the National Defense Service Medal with bronze service star, among many other commendations. The oak leaf clusters and service star denote subsequent decorations and awards of the same kind.

In retirement, Abraham joined the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States (VFW), serving in various capacities throughout the years. He also joined the Knights of Columbus, achieving the rank of Grand Knight.

The Congressional Veteran Commendation, in conjunction with the Veterans History Project and sponsored by the Library of Congress, is a nominations-based program to recognize the wartime sacrifices and community involvement of distinguished American veterans, preserving their stories for future generations.
