August 16 is the first day of classes for U-46 students and many other area school children. Drivers are reminded to obey school speed zone signs, refrain from using their cell phones and pay extra attention to students walking to and from school.
Please be mindful of school buses picking up and dropping off near schools and in residential neighborhoods. Also be aware that congestion near schools increases during this time of the year, so allow a bit longer for your daily commute.
The Bartlett Police will conduct extra patrols near elementary schools and in surrounding neighborhoods during the first few weeks of school. The department will also increase traffic enforcement activities in school speed zones and will utilize four new traffic calming devices. These devices consist of two solar-powered school speed limit blinker signs that will be installed on Westridge Boulevard near Nature Ridge School and two portable driver feedback signs. These devices are designed to increase driver speed awareness and roadway safety around schools and in residential neighborhoods.
Please contact the Police Department’s Traffic Unit at 630-837-0846 or the Village’s website to report speeding autos or other traffic-related concerns within the Village of Bartlett.
Students who walk to and from school are encouraged to always look both ways before crossing the street, obey the school crossing guards and watch for turning vehicles. Be especially alert during inclement weather, and walk with a parent, sibling, friend or a neighbor.
